I am a multi-disciplinary theatre artist specializing in mask work and puppetry. I also work as a director, teacher, and designer. Most recently, I have been designing masks for Women of Troy (Lunacy Stageworks) and for Absinthe, Opium & Magic: 1920s Shanghai (André du Lorde's Grand Guignolers de Paris). I am currently developing an experimental shadow puppet show called Bugged with Rollin Carlson and Simple Machines Theatre. I have also begun coordinating at Puppetry Lab for development of new works in collaboration with Tears of Joy Theatre. Last spring, I co-designed masks with Jennifer LaMastra for the music video of Blitzen Trapper's Black River Killer. Watch it here!. My interest in masks began in undergraduate study with Ècole Jacques Lecoq graduates Ron and Ludvika Popenhagen at the University of Kansas and continued forward into training with Bruce Marrs and Joan Schirle at the Dell'Arte International School. I have worked in Minneapolis with In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre and BareBones Artist Collective; in New York City with Under the Table Ensemble Theatre, Peculiar Works Project, Theatre Et Al, Ten Directions, and puppeteers Erin Orr, Kate Brehm, Max Dana, and Lake Simons; in Los Angeles with André du Lorde's Grand Guignolers de Paris; and in Portland with Nomadic Theatre Co, Oregon Children's Theatre, Tears of Joy, and Insight Out Theatre Collective. I have taught puppetry, mask-making and performance to all ages of students in workshops and residencies across the country and I have created masks for clients near and far since 2003. I have exhibited masks in the Face the Nation IV Juried Mask Exhibition at UC Davis (2006) and in Under the Influence in the Ashby Hoddge Gallery at Central Methodist College in Fayette, MO (2009). If you'd like to commission an original mask or mask set, please contact me at tony_fuemmeler @ yahoo.com. Also check my workshops and performances pages for the latest opportunities. There have been many wonderful individuals and companies with whom I have collaborated over the years. Look here for more information about them. |
